Short film pitch.

We pitched our ideas for our short film to our class, these are the ideas we came up with.

Practising shots.

We made a short film practising shot angles and techniques in preparation for starting our short film,
for this task I filmed with the camera and thought up some of the shot angles and techniques. Including the arc shot around the subject's head.

Response to pitch feedback

Here is a video of our response to the feedback people gave us after we pitched the idea of our short film to them.

For this we analysed the feedback that was given to us from the people who watched our pitch. We worked together to answer the questions that people asked, rethought some of the original ideas that people did not agree with, and overall we deducted that we are going to concentrate most of our time on making the film more noticeable to the audience.

This is a practise radio trailer we made in lesson for the 'outsider' task.

Our group all worked together to write this and each took turns to voice act in the trailer itself.

shadow photography practise

shadows connote enigma, in this shoot we tried to capture shadows of particular bodyparts to create mystery or a question.

Crime narative photoshoot

For this blog task, we created a short crime narrative involving a phone thief. this is how we conveyed the story in chronological order.

1. a guy on his new iphone, probably on instagram.

2. the villain steals the phone.

3. the guy asks his friend for help getting the phone back.

4. the guy points the thief out tp his friend.

5. his friend approaches and steals the phone from the thief.

6. the guys friend gives him his phone back!

To make the story anachronic, we re-arranged the events in this order-

3
4
1
2
5
6

This creates an enigma as we see the situation before it has happened. using flashbacks this helps to add depth to the story.

Genres.

Genres are different types of film for instance horror or comedy that aim to please the audience in a different way depending on the type of audience. A person who likes the horror genre may like it because it is jumpy and they are thrill-seekers, whereas people who enjoy romantic movies may watch them because they are more caring.

Hybrid genres are films where 2 or more genres are used and work with eachother, such as rom-com, or rom-zom-com. films such as shaun of the dead pull off the 'rom-zom-com' hybrid genre well. another film that uses hybrid genres but is not so new is 'alien', combining the sci fi genre with the horror genre.

The genres of film that are most popular in terms of Oscars are usually In the romance, comedy or drama genres. These are especially popular as drama and romance can both be made into 'epics', films that have very large budgets and aim to go down in history such as the godfather or citizen Kane which were revolutionary at the time.

Some short films get picked up by bigger companies who would like to make them into feature length films. An example of a short film that has been turned into a feature length film is 'across the hall'. Originally wrote by alex merkin, he sold the rights to a bigger company, then wrote and directed the feature length version.

There is a huge fanbase for short horrors, probably because they are so easy to make and therefore there are a lot of them, and the fan base has grown considerably larger than other ones that there are not so many of. also there seems to be a correlation between age and genre. Stereotypically a lot of young people use the internet, and young people's favourite genre of film appears to be horror, so there is a lot of online activity surrounding horror.
